Healthy living begins with taking an organic approach to wellness. We discuss plant medicines on The Vine, but this week we invited an organization focused on organic farming, and we feel that by eating organically we can live healthier lives and support a sustainable environment.

On episode #45 of The Vine, PMP talks to Jenna Pollard, Membership Program Manager for Worldwide Opportunities on Organic Farms, (WWOOF-USA), and Brittney Portes, a fellow WWOOFer. WWOOF-USA is part of a worldwide effort to link visitors with organic farmers, promote an educational exchange, and build a global community conscious of ecological farming practices. For all of our plant medicine followers, Hemp and Cannabis farms are also part of the program!

This is an exciting time for WWOOF, celebrating 50 years as a global movement started in London in 1971, and now in over 130 countries worldwide. WWOOF-USA is celebrating 20 years of getting visitors' hands in the soil, reconnecting with the source or food, to live a healthier lifestyle.

Visitors known as WWOOFers can choose from 1,670 organic farms across the country. The program is flexible so you can choose a farm near your home or travel to a location that you have always wanted to visit. Brittney Portes, a native of New Jersey, shares her story about traveling across the country to work on WWOOF farms including the one is visiting now in Minnesota.

WWOOFers typically spend half of each day helping out on the host farm to learn about organic farming and sustainability and in return, the WWOOFER receives free room and board during their visit. Since there is no money exchanged, WWOOFING is a cost effective way to learn about organic farming, travel, and meet other like minded people.
